Kudos to Jean Morin!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>He wore the same smiling-cow tie he wore at the 2011 Canadian Cheese Grand Prix, and, again, at the 2015 Canadian Cheese Grand Prix last night, Jean Morin was named Grand Champion\u2014the best of the best in artisan cheesemaking in Canada.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This time the champion cheese is Lalibert\u00e9, an aromatic triple cr\u00e8me that will blow your mind and palate. Click on image for an enlarged view,<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Clearly, it was an unforgettable evening for Morin and associate cheesemaker Dany Grimard as the Gala of Champions unfolded at Liberty Grand in Toronto, scene of a lavish awards ceremony cum cheese-tasting organized by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dairyfarmers.ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dairy Farmers of Canad<\/a><span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dairyfarmers.ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a<\/a>.<\/span> DFC has sponsored of the Canadian Cheese Grand Prix since launching the biennial competition in 1998 to celebrate the high quality and proud tradition of Canadian cheese made from 100% Canadian cow\u2019s milk.<\/p>\n<p>When asked what the secret is to making award-winning cheese, Morin, a fourth-generation dairy farmer, answers simply: \u201cGood grass and no silage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His response last night echoes <a title=\"Louis d\u2019Or: Best of the best in Canadian Cheese Grand Prix\" href=\"https:\/\/cheeseloverca.wordpress.com\/2011\/04\/21\/louis-d%e2%80%99or-best-of-the-best-in-canadian-cheese-grand-prix\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">what he told CheeseLover.ca four years ago<\/a>: \u201cHappy, healthy cows. Click on image for an enlarged view.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Appropriately, smiling cows adorned the tie Morin wore to the 2011 awards presentation and last night, too<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lalibert\u00e9 was selected as Grand Champion by a jury of Canadian food industry experts from 27 category winners. The Grand Champion and 27 category winners were chosen from a record-setting 268 cheese entries submitted by cheesemakers from Prince Edward Island to British Columbia. The submissions were then narrowed down to <a title=\"How many Cheese Grand Prix finalists have you tasted?\" href=\"https:\/\/cheeseloverca.wordpress.com\/2015\/03\/17\/how-many-cheese-grand-prix-finalists-have-you-tasted\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">81 finalists<\/a> by the jury in February.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;From all the excellent cheeses the jury tasted, we found Lalibert\u00e9 to be the stand-out,\u201d said Phil B\u00e9langer, Canadian Cheese Grand Prix jury chairman. \u201cThis cheese truly distinguished itself in texture, taste and overall appearance. Its exquisite aromatic triple cream with its tender bloomy rind encases an unctuous well balanced flavour with hints of mushroom, pastures and root vegetables.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Named after Alfred Lalibert\u00e9, the famous sculptor born in Sainte-\u00c9lizabeth-de-Warwick, the farmstead cheese took a year and a half to develop and is made with cow&#8217;s milk provided by a mix of naturally raised Jerseys and Holsteins.<\/p>\n<p>Fromagerie du Presbyt\u00e8re cheeses are distributed by <a href=\"http:\/\/fromagesduquebec.qc.ca\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Plaisirs Gourmets<\/a> and available in cheese shops across Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Lalibert\u00e9 will the featured cheese and Jean Morin the guest of honour at the fifth anniversary <a href=\"http:\/\/cheesefestival.ca\/tickets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Great Canadian Cheese Festival <\/a>on June 6-7 in Picton, Ontario.
