In alphabetical order, here are 20 outstanding cheeses of the year just ending\u2014and one terrific cinnamon butter:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left:30px;\"><strong>Any cheese made by <a href=\"http:\/\/gunnshillcheese.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gunn&#8217;s Hill Artisan Cheese<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nRegardless if I&#8217;m eating his curds or the harder aged cheeses Shep Ysselstein is best known for, his cheeses never disappoint, they&#8217;re always outstanding bites to remember. He is truly a talented cheesemaker to watch.<br \/>\n<em>\u2014Wendy Furtenbacher, Blogger, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.curdygirl.com\/\">CurdyGirl<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left:30px;\"><strong>Avonlea Clothbound Cheddar, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cowscreamery.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">COWS Creamery<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nI was in P.E.I in the summer and finally got to meet Scott Linkletter,\u00a0 owner of COWS Creamery, and Armand Bernard, the cheesemaker. Worth the wait!<br \/>\n<i>\u2014<a href=\"http:\/\/cheeseandtoast.com\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sue Riedl<\/a>, Cheese Columnist, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/authors\/sue-riedl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Globe and Mail<\/a><\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left:30px;\"><strong>Brebiou, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bongrain.com\/fr\/accueil.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fromagerie de Chaumes<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nBrebiou is a pasteurized sheep&#8217;s milk bloomy rind from Fromagerie des Chaumes in southwest France that I thoroughly enjoyed discovering. <a href=\"http:\/\/cheesechatter.wordpress.com\/2010\/09\/13\/brebiou-gentle-as-a-lamb\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Click here<\/a> for more tasting notes.<br \/>\n<em>\u2014Jackie Armet, Cheese Co-ordinator , <a href=\"http:\/\/cheesefestival.ca\/\">The Great Canadian Cheese Festival<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left:30px;\"><strong>Brie Paysan, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fromageriedupresbytere.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fromagerie de la Presbytere<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nIt&#8217;s been consistently beautiful this year, especially when ripe. If purchased, folks should hold it for an extra while. This is my favourite example of &#8220;vegetal&#8221; notes in a cheese.<br \/>\n<em>\u2014Vanessa Simmons, Cheese Sommelier, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.savvycompany.ca\/\">Savvy Company<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left:30px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/downeyshoneybutter.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Downey&#8217;s Cinnamon Honey Butter<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nMy personal favourite this year is Downey&#8217;s cinnamon butter. It was a breakfast favourite of my youth, and I knew the family that made it in upstate New York. Through sleuthing with<a href=\"http:\/\/ca.linkedin.com\/pub\/gerry-albright\/4b\/888\/369\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Gerry Albright<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/authors\/sue-riedl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sue Riedl<\/a>, it turns out this is a heritage Canadian product! Many people remember McFeeter&#8217;s Honey Butter. The McFeeters licenced honey butter to the Downeys in Eastern Ontario. The Downeys later moved the company to New York. Whether you like the history or not, it is an awesome breakfast treat on toast. I was not expecting success, but one out of the five cheeses I affineured actually turned out well.
