Photo Keith Beaty of Toronto Star.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>If you live in Toronto, here\u2019s a new opportunity to support regional growers and artisanal food producers\u2014and buy Canadian cheese. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Starting this Thursday, Regional &#8216;n&#8217; Artisanal Food Market will be open from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Barbara Frumm Atrium at the <a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.ca\/maps?hl=en&amp;q=Canadian+Broadcasting+Centre&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;hq=&amp;hnear=Canadian+Broadcasting+Centre&amp;z=14\">Canadian Broadcasting Centre<\/a>, 250 Front Street West at John Street.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s all thanks to Gurth Pretty, cheese guru and author and owner of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cheeseofcanada.ca\/\">Cheese of Canada<\/a>, who lobbied the brass at CBC to obtain use of the indoor space. Other confirmed dates are February 25, March 25 and April 22.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring the summer and early fall, the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) is awash with outdoor farmers&#8217; markets,\u201d says Gurth. \u201cThere is at least one each day of the week. Consumers are able to purchase local ingredients directly from the growers or from their representatives. But once the leaves change colour and fall, the outdoor market season shrivels up until (the following) June.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vendors confirmed for opening day include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cheese of Canada (Canadian cheese\/dried apple and pear crackers),<\/li>\n<li>Kawartha Ecological Growers (vegetables\/preserves\/eggs\/meat)<\/li>\n<li>More than Pies Baking Co. (biscotti and bars)<\/li>\n<li>Toorshi Foods (savoury pickled vegetables)<\/li>\n<li>Warner Farm (Niagara fruit products)<\/li>\n<li>ChocoSol Traders and Chocolatiers (cocoa and coffee)<\/li>\n<li>Nieuwenhuis Meadows (frozen lamb)<\/li>\n<li>From These Roots (flower &amp; fruit jam\/salsa)<\/li>\n<li>St. John&#8217;s Bakery (sourdough organic breads)<\/li>\n<li>Evelyn&#8217;s Crackers (organic crackers)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Parking is available at nearby parking lots.<\/p>\n<p>Cheese of Canada will have a variety of cow, goat and sheep milk cheeses on sale, including <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kootenaybiz.com\/creston\/saycheese.php\">Alpindon<\/a>, an organic raw cow\u2019s milk cheese from British Columbia, Smoked Gouda from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cheesefarm.ca\/\">Thunder Oak<\/a> in Thunder Bay, and award-winning <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fifthtown.ca\/artisan_cheese\/products\/category\/hard_cheese\/\">Isabella<\/a>, a goat\u2019s milk cheese aged for 12 months at Fifth Town in Prince Edward County yet still offering delicate flavours.<\/p>\n<p><em>The photo of Gurth Pretty appeared in The Toronto Star <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thestar.com\/living\/article\/581812\">when it interviewed him on the benefits of raw milk<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you live in Toronto, here\u2019s a new opportunity to support regional growers and artisanal food producers\u2014and buy Canadian cheese.
